Configuring e-mail client

It can be convenient to manage your e-mail using an e-mail client, like Thunderbird, Apple Mail, Outlook on a computer, or K-9 Mail, iOS Mail app or Gmail app on mobile devices. The table below shows the correct server settings which you will need to configure your e-mail client. These settings are applicable to any e-mail client installed on your computer or mobile phone. We recommend using IMAP rather than POP.

Your e-mail is always accessible using our webmail

Greenhost offers Roundcube as webmail. One can always find it via the "Login" link in the top right-hand corner on the Greenhost home page.

IMAP (incoming) POP (incoming) SMTP (outgoing)

port 993 995 587 or 465
security TLS TLS StartTLS or SSL

IMAP vs POP:

Greenhost supports two different e-mail protocols for incoming e-mail: IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) and POP (Post Office Protocol). Below you will find some features to help you decide which protocol to choose.

If you choose POP, all incoming e-mail is taken off the mail server and transferred to your computer.

If you choose IMAP, all your e-mail stays on the server. Greenhost advises to use IMAP, because you can then optimally make use of our webmail and anti-spam facilities.

POP features:

  • Fetched e-mail can be read offline too
  • The mail is only stored on the computer with which you fetch the e-mail
  • Suitable to read your e-mail with a single device;

IMAP features:

  • All e-mail is stored on the mail server
  • Your e-mail is backed up automatically
  • A connection is continuously needed to read the e-mail (unless you configure your mail program otherwise)
  • The size of your mailbox on the mail server can become very large
  • Suitable for fetching email with multiple devices
