About the position

Greenhost is looking for a senior or intermediate PHP back-end developer to strengthen our developer team. Our front office and sysadmin teams rely on tools every day to keep our customers’ sites and services running smoothly - so you will join a small team whose work sits at the heart of our operations.

You will work on a substantial, mature PHP codebase. Your work will include:

  • Day-to-day maintenance, fixes and improvements;
  • Refactoring and modernizing the codebase as part of an ongoing effort, including extending the API layer around our service panel.

While your focus is internal, your work plugs directly into customer-facing products like our service centre. Ultimately, you help keep our customers happy and well served.

About you

You share our values of internet freedom, privacy and human rights, and you prefer open source over enterprise software. You have solid experience as a back-end developer: you write maintainable, well-tested code, and you know how to work carefully in systems where stability is crucial.

You enjoy the challenge of working with existing systems - improving code and structures step by step.

You enjoy working in a team, and value clear and timely communication. You like to share knowledge, and want to learn from others. You are comfortable giving and receiving constructive feedback, and you don’t need to be micromanaged to stay on track.

Skills and competencies:

Required:

  • Solid experience with PHP and databases.
  • Strong experience working in UNIX/Linux environments (Debian-based).
  • Strong experience with version control (Git) and collaborative development workflows.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.

A plus:

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes and Ansible.
  • Affinity with hosting, cloud infrastructure or internet-freedom topics.

Procedure:

You can direct your letter of interest and resume to Pepijn Schipper, through vacancies@greenhost.net. Please make sure to include why you want to work for Greenhost, and why you would be a good match to our organisation.

We accept applications on a rolling basis, you will receive a reaction within a week. PGP Finger print:
